Fredrik Schaufelberger is assistant professor of synthetic chemistry at University of Warwick and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He obtained his undergraduate degree from at KTH and ETH Zürich (2007-2012), followed by PhD studies at KTH in the area of supramolecular and dynamic covalent chemistry (with Olof Ramström). Following his dissertation, he moved to the group of David A. Leigh at the Univerity of Manchester with a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (2017-2020). In Manchester, he was studying functional molecular knots and chemically fuelled molecular assemblies such as rotaxanes. After a research stay with Molly M. Stevens at Imperial College London (2020-2021), where he was working on biosensing and drug delivery, he took up a position as assistant professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. In November 2024, he started as an assistant professor at the University of Warwick, UK. In his spare time, he loves to hang out with his family, read pretentious novels and play video games (especially 16-bit japanese role-playing games).

Anja Ramström is Phd student in the group since august 2022. She previously studied the MSc program in Molecular Science and Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and she did her MSc thesis in the group in spring 2022 on luminescent rotaxanes as reported molecular for biosensing. Her PhD research is based on investigations on the interface between artificial molecular machines and biological systems. Her research interests are synthetic organic chemistry for molecular machine synthesis and luminescence spectroscopy. In her spare time, she plays soccer, hang out with friends and play computer games.

Daisy Pooler has been a postdoctoral researcher in the group since November 2023, working on biocompatible molecular machines. She received her MChem degree from the University of Manchester (UK) in 2018, where she studied chemically-fuelled molecular walkers in the group of Prof. David Leigh (and where she also met Fredrik). She then joined the group of Prof. Ben L. Feringa at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) as a PhD student, working on heterocyclic light-driven rotary molecular motors. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading, cycling, and playing on her Nintendo Switch.

Stan van Dooren is a BSc intern in the group since January 2024, working on biocompatible molecular machines. He is doing his exchange studies from Avans University of Applied Sciences, and he has previous experience working on carbohydrate chemistry at Utrecht university. He is a big synthesis lover and an organic chemist at heart. Outside of the lab he enjoys reading, playing video games and mountain biking.

Marilyn Kumarasingam is a MChem student in the group since October 2025, working on pseudo-rotaxanes for biosensing applications. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Warwick, and she has a deep interest in medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry. Outside of the lab, Marilyn enjoys baking, dancing, and going on (leisurely) nature walks.

Jack Oram is a PhD student in the Schaufelberger group researching slide-ring materials for biomedical applications. Jack obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Warwick before completing an MSc by research in the Baker Humanitarian Chemistry Group where he researched RAFT polymerisation and end-functionalisation of polymers for diagnostic devices. Outside of his research, Jack is an avid tuba and euphonium player and enjoys going climbing.

Gabriel Rosario-Whyte is a MChem project student in the Group since October 2025 working on the solid phase synthesis of interlocked molecules. Previously, he was an undergraduate researcher with Remzi Becer, studying the polymerisation of oxazolines and their applications. Research interests include oligopeptide synthesis and stimuli-responsive biomaterials for therapeutic applications. Runner and yogi outside the lab with a knack for cooking and anything outdoors.

Nicole Sallier de la Tour is a MSc student in the group since October 2025, working on mechanically interlocked radiotracers. She is doing her master’s thesis as an exchange student from the University of Heidelberg, where she previously worked on computational studies of rotaxanes with Prof. Saeed Amirjalayer, and earlier on molecular machines with Dr. Michael Kathan at Humboldt University of Berlin. She has also done a full year exchange in Osaka, Japan, where she worked on electrocatalysis with Prof. Shigeyuki Masaoka. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading in cafés, doing yoga, and going to concerts and festivals.
